Or maybe France interveine, maybe there's a crusade or a Jihad, maybe something else entirely like a new heresy. Maybe the spanish manage to reconquer Spain, maybe Andalusia takes Spain. In CK2 you have the Spanish theater and you don't know how it will play. You would never see an unusual culture rise above the others, because of the big blobs. It could never end with fun situations like in a normal game of CK2 where a realm turns to another religion or an empire gets dismantled. After one or two game it's not really enough to see that the Iron Throne now belongs to Arryns or some random noble family to have fun. The mega-war system will only sometimes create interesting situation where one side isn't just vastly superior to the other, and anyway it will only change the name of the rulers. But overall everything is just too big to change in interesting ways. Interesting stuff happens mostly through scripted wars and events. So the interesting characters that actually have opportunities are not that numerous, and they are mostly characters from the books. There are big cultural and religious blobs everywhere. Even in Westeros, a lot of countries don't really have any actual flavour, they are just clones to take more space. It had a gigantic map with a lot of useless parts with very little flavour. There are a lot of nice features to emulate the world of AGOT, but it still relies a lot on your willingness to play by the rules. Play as a fan favourite, conquer stuff, do the usual event lines to get cool items/dragons, that's pretty much it. Currently, /r/CrusaderKings is operating its seventh communal game.ĪGOT for CK2 was kinda a one-trick mod.
